Thank you Mark, I didn't know about such OST conference about OST (seems like Inception 😁) and now I know It exists. It seems really a cool place to be in!

I like OST so much that I apply the Law of 2 Feet at all meetings that I organize: everyone Is invited to stay in the meeting as long as they feel they are contributing to the outcome.

If they feel that they are just there because they feel obliged, then that's the right moment to move away.

I think that the Law of Two Feet is perhaps the most important element of the OST format/approach. I once wrote a piece about 'Opt In Meetings' which tried to introduce this kind of thinking for one-off meetings around a particular topic. Hasn't caught on yet :-) http://hostleadership.com/about/opt-in-meetings/

Love the suggestion you made, that's exactly what I did with overall retrospective with more than one team and a biweekly 45 minutes meeting named "agile meeting debunking".

Everyone on the teams were added in the meeting as "optional" and in the description I clearly wrote about the Law of the 2 Feet, so everyone is aware of what's going to happen there.

Fascinating! What are the implications in an educational setting? As educators call for more opportunities for autonomy and agency, could events such as OST be considered, particularly regarding professional development and learning?

Yes, I think so. OST requires the 'know-how to be in the room' rather than be a vehicle for formal teaching. (But of course if the 'teachers' are in the room then that could be workable.)

Yes, paradoxical bind🙏⭐️! it reminds me that being in a not knowing position or being prepared to be surprised really can make magic!

Yes Annika. I like your connection with the not knowing position (a key part of Solution Focused practice as well as many other things); when we know, we just do it. But when we don't know, we explore. And the nice positive paradoxical bind here encourages us to explore in really whatever direction is appealing right now.
